A number of cricketers to miss BCL 4th round due to injuries

Bangladesh speedster Taskin Ahmed, all-rounders Mosaddek Hossain Saikat and Mehedi Hasan Miraj along with Mominul Haque and Imrul Kayes will miss the next round fixture of the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) after Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman.

Taskin, Saikat and Miraj among these players received injuries for their hectic domestic and international schedule. Taskin sustained injury on his back which is needed two-week to be recuperated completely. The same thing is applicable for the cases of Saikat and Miraj.

Mominul Haque and Imrul Kayes missed the resuming round fixture of the BCL due to different reason as they went to Saudi Arabia to perform Umra Hajj.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury acknowledged the players’ current injury status, stating that the probability of the players’ injury amid the scorching hot in BCL will be bigger.

“Normally the humidity in wind and additional temperature remain in April-May. And so, there is a possibility of heat stroke with the combination of the two. When temperature exceeds 40 degree, it might be affected on player’s health,” said Dr Debashis Chowdhury.

“As we have to play in such adverse weather condition in our country, the preparation for playing is very important. We want to remember our players that water management could be played a vital role in case of the affects of the temperature and humidity. In this regard, there is a directive for them,” Debashish told media.

“In such situation, players should drink water after a specific time despite having no thirstiness. The colour of urine is also important because our dehydration status will depend on its colour. Players have to drink water until it comes down normalcy,” he added.

He said that ICC has been preparing a guideline for the players for the games during the mid-summer.

When asked about Miraj, Dr Debashis said, “During the play of the ICC Under-19 World Cup, Miraj got injury on his shoulder, the injury which is increased again due to his hectic national and international schedule. For this, he needed some more time to be healed fully.”

“Saikat sustained injury on his waist during the title-deciding match between Abahani Limited and Legends of Rupganj on April 5. He will also miss the next round game as his injury will take some times,” he said of Mosaddek Hossain Saikat’s injury status.

The longer version cricket, BCL, will resume with the fourth-round fixture on Tuesday following a two-month-long break due to the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPDCL) for the 2018 season.

All the players of the national team are scheduled to play at least one round game before joining to their respective training camp for the next back to back series against Afghanistan and the West Indies. Both the series are slated to play in between June and July.
