A Tangail court yesterday sentenced a garment factory worker to death for killing labour leader Aminul Islam in 2012, reports UNB. Condemned convict Mustafizur Rahman, 26, son of Shamsher Mollik of Kadirpara village in Sreepur upazila of Magura district is absconding since the murder. Judge Wahiduzzaman Sikdar of Tangail Special Judge's Court handed down the order around 11am without the presence of the convict.
Aminul, an organiser of Bangladesh Centre for Workers Solidarity (BCWS) for Savar-Ashulia area and also a leader of Bangladesh Garments and Industrial Workers' Federation (BGIWF), went missing after he was taken away from his Ashulia office by his acquaintances Mustafizur on April 4, 2012. On the next day, Ghatail police found the body on
Tangail-Mymensingh highway in front of Brahmanasan Mohila College.
On April 7 that year, Anjuman Mofidul Islam with the help of police buried him as an unidentified person in a graveyard following an autopsy at Tangail General Hospital.
Later, Aminul’s family members identified him seeing the photograph of the body in newspapers.
The case was first investigated by Ghatail police and later Tangail Detective Branch Sub-inspector Dulal Hossain investigated the case and submitted charge sheet accusing Mustafizur Rahman.
