A five-member probe formed by the Health and Family Welfare Ministry to look into the losing of 20 patients' eyesight after surgery at the Impact Memorial Community Health Centre here visited the hospital yesterday, reports UNB. The investigation team reached the hospital at noon. They talked to the hospital authorities and patients who had lost their eyesight after surgery.

The committee members are Additional Health and Family Welfare Secretary Mizanur Rahman, National InstituteofEye Scienceand Hospital Professor Dr Md Saifullah, Associate Professor of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (Microbiology) Dr Sazzad Bin Shahid, Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA)deputy directorNurulIslamand Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) deputy directorMSharifulIslam. The committee will submit its report to the Health Ministry on Friday, said Mizanur Rahman.

On March 5, a total of 24 patients underwent cataract operations at the hospital and a day after the surgery, all the patients were released. But a few hours after returning home, 20 of them felt severe pain in their eyes due to infection.  Sensing danger, the hospital authorities secretly took them to Islamia Eye Hospital and Vision Eye Hospital in Dhaka. Later, each of the 20 patients underwent surgery and their infected eyes were removed.
