Seniors call youngsters to play consistent

Former Bangladesh captains including Akram Khan, Khaled Mahmud Sujon and Habibul Bashar Sumon expressed all the identical views and said that they will go up if their youngster players could be consistent in performance beside the senior most players of the team.

They, who all currently are in the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), also said that they needed to produce more quality and talented players as they have much more games ahead.

“Day by day, we’re improving. Firstly we’ve started doing well in one-day. Then we’re also faring well in T20 beside Test. I think, we’ve needed times to do better further,” Akram Khan said yesterday.

“Now it’s important that we’ve needed more backup players because we’ve many more games in the next one and half-a-years. The youngster we’ve at this moment we could not get performance from them what we’ve expected. If they could be consistent beside the senior players we will go up further, Inshaallah,” Akram told reporters during the innings break of the Independence Day exhibition T20 match, organised by BCB tournament committee.

With the participation of the former players, BCB organises the match every year on the eve of the Independence Day (March 26) and Victory Day (December 16) to recollect the martyred son of the country.          

This year the match between Bangladesh Green and Bangladesh Red fielded where the Red won the match by six wickets.

Bangladesh Green stacked up 166 for seven in 20 overs after being opted to bat first at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium thanks largely to Rafiqul Islam (34), Harunur Rashid (27), Jahangir Alam (not out 27), Hasanuzzaman Jhoru (22), Alamgir Kabir (19) and Mehrab Hossain (14).

Khaled Mahmud bagged four wickets for 41 in his four-over spell.   

In reply, Bangladesh Red overhauled the target with six wickets and 11 balls to spare courtesy of Hannan Sarkar (61), Minhajul Abedin Nannu (31), Khaled Mahmud (not out 28), Akram Khan (21) and Habibul Bashar (13).
