Inter District Basketball competition will start from today at the Dhanmondi Basketball Gymnasium with six districts are taking part in the three-day contest.
Six teams, Dhaka, Khulna, Jessore, Rajshahi, Chittagong and Chandpur will play splitting into two groups in group league phase while two top teams from each group will move into the semifinals.
Bangladesh Basketball Federation (BBF) took the initiative to involve all the districts across the country in the game.
AK Sarker, general secretary of the BBF informed all in a press conference at the Dutch Bangla Bank Auditorium of the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) when he said, “Our only objective to organise the competition to grow the interest of the district of across the country for to produce players at national level.”
“The districts always complain that we are not care about the district level teams, just giving importance to their interests we are going to organise the Inter-district competition with the participation of the districts.”
While AK Sarker also informed that the South Asian Qualifying Basketball will take place in Dhaka in June and they are organising the competition to pick players for the competition.
“We will pick players from this competition for our national team for the upcoming South Asian Qualifying Basketball competition to be held in Dhaka in June.
Walton are the sponsors the competition when the jersey was unveiled of the competition in the presence of FM Iqbal bin Anwar, a senior executive of Walton Group.
The champions of the competition will receive Taka 30,000 while the runners-up will have Taka 20,000.
