Mentally challenged attacker kills salesman

A shopkeeper was stabbed to death by an apparently mentally-challenged man at Razabazar area in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Tuesday night, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Julhas, 50, son of late Sundar Ali, hailing from Durgapur village in Homna Upazila in Comilla district who was a manager of a construction material shop, Raza & Com, in Indira Road. Another shopkeeper, Alam, who witnessed the incident from a nearby store, said a mentally-challenged man stabbed Julhas at the shop around 7pm after Julhas refused to give him money, leaving him severely injured.

Later, Alam and Julhas's son Saifullah took the injured to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead at around 8pm.

The body was kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy, said sub-inspector of DMCH Police camp Md Bacchu Mia, adding that locals held the attacker, who is now thought to be in police custody. Saifullah said his father was the caretaker of a house behind the shop and also used to manage the shop while the attacker has been living on the streets in the area.
