Two to die for killing man

A court in Manikganj yesterday sentenced two people to death for killing his wife in Harirampur upazila of the district in 2011.
The condemned convicts are Selina Akter, wife of murdered Idris Ali and Md Nazrul Islam.
The court also acquitted another accused Dulal of the murder charge.
According to prosecution, Idris Ali, 35, was murdered at Kamarghona village in Harirampur upazila on November 28, 2011.
Detective Branch of police filed a case against three people, including the wife of the deceased, with Monirampur Police Station.
After examining the documents and witnesses, district and sessions judge Md Mizanur Rahman handed down the verdict in absentia of the accused.
4 Bangladeshi youths return after serving jail in India

Four Bangladeshi youths returned home on Monday evening through Benapole Check Post after serving two and half years in an Indian jail.
The returnees are - Mintu Rahman, 14, son of Abdul Gaffar, a resident of Kabilpur village, Sohel Rana, son of Kamrul Islam, a resident of Fatehpur village in Jhikargaccha upazila of Jessore district, Raihan Gazi, 17, son of Anisul Islam, a resident of Etagaccha village in Satkhira Sadar and Sheikh Rabbi Sheikh, son of Babu Mandal, a resident of Songidanga village in Morelganj upazila in Bagerhat district.
Petrapole Immigration Police handed them over to their Bangladeshi counterparts on the presence of members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and immigration police, said Khairul Islam, duty officer of Benapole Check Post.
Four drug peddlers arrested
LALMONITHAT: Police in separate drives arrested four people with 85 kilograms of ganja and 150 bottles of phensidyl in the district yesterday, reports BSS.
The detainees are Taleb Mondol, 40, Abdul Latif, 36, Amir Hossain, 45 and Sukumar Rao, 40.
Officer-in-charge of Lalmonirhat Sadar Thana Mahfuz Alom said Taleb Mondol and Abdul Latif were held from Tista Toll Plaza area in Sadar upazila with the 85 kilograms of ganja while Amir Hossain and Sukumar Rao were held in another drive in Singimari area under Hatibandha upazila of the district early morning.
The detainees were sent to jail after producing before a court.
Minor killed in road accident
MAGURA: An infant was killed as a shallow-engine run trolley hit a motorcycle in Mohammadpur upazila of the district yesterday morning, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Syeed Rafi, 03, hailed from Magura town.
Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadpur Thana Torikul Islam said the accident took place in Baroria bridge area in the morning on the Magura-Mohammadpur Road, leaving Rafi, who was heading towards Magura town along with his parents on a motorcycle, dead on the spot. Police seized the trolley.
Fire kills 2 siblings in Shariatpur

Two minor siblings were burned to death in a fire that broke out at Shibson village in Bhedarganj upazila on Monday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Asma, 8, and Mafia, 6, daughters of Monir Sarkar of the village.
Manjurul Haque Akanda, officer-in-charge of Sakhipur Police Station, said the fire originated from the kitchen of Monir and it soon engulfed the adjacent houses.
Asma and Mafia were burned to death in the incident, he said, adding that the village is situated in a remote char area of the upazila whereby firefighters could not reach the spot.
Later, locals doused the flame and recovered the charred bodies of the minor siblings.
At least five adjacent houses were also burnt down in the fire, the OC added.
