Bangladesh one-day captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza goes into raptures over all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad for his sublime finishing stint that ensured the victory in the last fixture, stating that Riyad did the right job what is needed in such situation for winning the match against Sri Lanka.
“When the situation was ‘12 off four balls’ Riyad then struck a boundary. And then it was deemed possible to win the match. Before that, second no-ball could come to our favour. If it would be done, the calculation then stood ‘12 off five balls’. In such situation, it would be easier more to win the game,” said Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, who retired from T20 internationals last year.
“Then the way Riyad played it was outstanding. It’s not a matter to be unbeaten on 43 off 18 balls. He started his attack as soon as came in the field that was really outstanding,” Mashrafe told.
“To win the match, someone took up the initiative what Riyad took since the very first ball. In T20 matches, someone took up the responsibility and then it’s possible to win a match. I think, the role Riyad played yesterday obviously he didn’t do it daily someone has to come up and play such in the next match. Actually, the matches are done in T20 in this way,” he added.
Following the shocking drubbing to Sri Lanka in the last home series, Bangladesh’s such victories and then heading into the Nidahas Cup tri-series final beating the same rivals at their yard will be the best T20 international match in Bangladesh cricket history as Mashrafe Bin Mortaza said.
“If we count the best T20 International match of Bangladesh cricket, it’ll then be in Nidahas Trophy matches. It may be the match what was won by Mushfiq. Riyad did the second,” he viewed.
He also gave credit to Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das beside Mushfiq-Mahmudullah and said that Tamim’s contribution set the tune of the innings in both the matches.
“Tamim’s contribution behind the victories is not lesser. Liton had also contribution in the first match. But the way Tamim batted throughout those matches actually he set the innings. It may be if Tamim is not out we could have won the match somewhat before the end of the innings,” the ODI captain said.
“But the way Mushfiq and Riyad batted someone had to bat in the opening stand what Tamim did accurately. I think, Tamim has big contribution behind these two innings matches,” he also said.
The 32-year-old captain said that they have to formulate their game plan surrounding batsmen Rohit Sharman, Shikhar Dhawan along with bowlers Chahal and Washington if they could execute it properly the possibility of the winning in the final would then be possible.
“There were coaches, captain and senior players in Sri Lanka, they all will obviously make a plan for the next match. They know well about planning. But I think, if we could take the wickets of Rohit Sharman and Shikhar Dhawan early, the match will since be in our hands because these two players regularly play international games and T20 for their team. It’s important for us to dismiss them,” he thought.
“At the same time, it would be matter for us to hand Chahal and Washington in right way. We have to devise our plan surrounding these four players then the result of the match would be come in favour of us. And then there will have a good chance for us to win the final,” he added.
Even though a total of five regular players is not in this Indian side, they have to play tough cricket on the ground to beat them in the final as the experienced Tigers’ captain said.
“..Now we pray for them so that they could play up to the mark. If we could play up to the mark we have ability to beat this Indian side. For this, we’ve to play tough cricket on the field. Hopefully the team will play better cricket in tomorrow’s final,” he concluded.
