SYLHET: A tribunal here on Wednesday convicted a man and sentenced him to life term imprisonment for possessing drugs.

The convict Nazim Uddin, 32, is a son of Gias Uddin of Beanibazar upazila.

The court also fined Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer, six months more in rigorous imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, members of Sylhet Narcotics Control Department arrested Nazim along with 30 grams of heroin worth Tk three lakh from South Surma area on October 3, 2011.

A case was filed with DakkhinSurma Police Station in this connection.

Police later submitted charge sheet against him on January 15, 2013.

After examining records and witnesses, Sylhet Public Safety Disturbance Crime Prevention TribunalJudge Dilip Kumar Bhoumik handed down the verdict.
