A local court yesterday awarded the death sentence to Roshu Kha, 45, and his two associates for gang-raping and killing a young woman of Paltaluk village in Faridganj upazila. The gruesome incident had taken place on July 20, 2009. The district judge of the Nari O Shishu Nirjaton Domon Tribunal Court, Abdul Mannan, delivered the judgment yesterday noon. The two associates of Roshu Kha are: Jahirul Islam, 35, and Md Yunus, 42, both residents of Govindapur village under Faridganj upazila.
According to the prosectuion, Pervin, wife of Abul Kalam of Paltaluk village in Faridganj upazila, was seduced by Rashu Kha.
Pervin was taken to a solitary place beside the Hasa khal, where Roshu Khan, along with the two associates, had gang-raped her and burnt 20 places of her body with cigarettes, and finally, strangled her to death.
Roshu Kha was arrested on October 7, 2009, from Nirashpara in Tongi in connection with theft of fans from a mosque in Gazipur Bazar area of Faridganj. While in police custody, he confessed to killing Pervin and 10 other women after raping them.
Among his victims, only Ruma Akter, 20, has managed to survive.
