Jayanta Chattopadhyay honoured this year

Celebrated elocutionist and actor Jayanta Chattopadhyay has been honoured with the Golam Mustafa Memorial Award this year for his contribution to the country’s cultural and recitation arena. Tarunyer Uchchhas, a prominent recitation organisation of the country, introduced the award paying homage to late noted recitation personality and actor Golam Mustafa from last year.

Jayanta Chattopadhyay received the award at a function at Muktamancha of Shilpakala Academy in Chittagong on Friday. The award programme was attended by veteran theatre personality Mamunur Rashid, daughter of Golam Mustafa actress Suborna Mustafa, seasoned actor Afzal Hossain, general manager of the Chittagong Centre of Bangladesh Television Monoj Sengupta and Assistant High Commissioner of India Anindya Banerjee. Presided over by president of Tarunyer Uchchhas Bhagyadhan Barua, the event was moderated by the organisation’s general secretary Md Muzahidul Islam.

At the programme, the guests handed over uttoria (celebratory scarf), books of poetry, crest, portrait and ten thousand taka to Jayanta Chattopadhyay.

Jayanta Chattopadhyay said, “This honour is a big achievement for me. The award for recitation made me fascinated. I am grateful to all of them who honoured me with this award.”

After the award ceremony, Jayanta Chattopadhyay, Suborna Mustafa, Srabani Dasgupta and Sejuti Dey recited at the event, while Shanta Guha, Al Tushi and Anika Chowdhury rendered solo song.

To note, Syed Hasan Imam was honoured with the Golam Mustafa Memorial Award for the first time

in 2017.
