RU MCJ dept to celebrate silver jubilee Apr 19

The department of Mass Communication & Journalism (MCJ) of Rajshahi University (RU) is going to celebrate its silver jubilee on the campus on April 19-20, said a press release. To mark the 25th founding anniversary, the MCJ department chalked out two-day various programmes including rally, forming MCJ Alumni Association, friendship cricket match, reminiscent ceremony, journalism related seminar, and cultural event. MCJ dept head Prof Prodip Kumar Pandey urged the former and present teachers, officials and students to complete their registration by March 31 to take part in the two-day ceremony. Maritime university gets new VC

Rear Admiral M Khaled Iqbal has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University (BSMRU). President Abdul Hamid, also the chancellor of the university appointed him as the VC, said a press release. Prior to joining here, Khaled Iqbal served as the chairman of the Chittagong Port Authority. He joined Bangladesh Navy in January, 1981 and commissioned in Executive Branch on June 1, 1983. Rear Admiral ASM Abdul Batten, its first VC, handed over the duties to the new VC at a programme at a ceremony on the campus.  Treasurer, registrar, deans, faculty members, officers and staffs were also present at the programme.

Seminar on career at IU today

KUSTHIA: A day-long seminar titled ‘Career Adda’ will be held at Birsherstha Hamidur Rahman Auditorium at Islamic University (IU) today. Campus-based voluntary organisations Durbar Bangladesh and Swapner Baksha Foundation of the university will organise the event at 10am today.  Founder of 10 Minute School Ayman Sadiq will be present here as the motivational speaker while Mahmud Hassan Rony, President of Durbar Bangladesh, will chair it.

Int’l seminar held at IU

Kushtia: An international seminar titled "The influence of world literature on the Tagorean characterization of women" was held at Islamic University (IU) yesterday. English department of the university organised the seminar at Birshreshtha  Hamidur Rahman central auditorium of the campus around 11.30am. IU VC Prof M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari addressed here as the chief  guest while Pro-VC Prof M Shahinoor Rahman spoke the seminar as  special guest. Tagore scholar and a well-known author Professor Dr Bina Biswas, former  head of the English department of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad delivered the keynote speech related with Tagorean characterization of women. Some five hundred teachers and students of the department took part at the  seminar including Assistant Professor Prodip Kumar Adhikari, Mrs. Tanzila  Shahid, Mrs. Sonia Sharmin and Prakash Chandra Biswas.

Model UN conference begins at RU

Rajshahi : A four-day model United Nations (MU) conference began at Rajshahi University (RU) on Thursday with the theme ‘Combating Inhumanity: Prolonging Global Peace’. Rajshahi University Model United Nations (RUMUN) organised the conference for third time at Shaheed Sukhranjan Sammadder Teachers-Students Cultural Centre where a total of 300 students from various institutions form both home and abroad are taking part. RU former vice-chancellor and also former Bangladesh high commissioner to the United Kingdom formally inaugurated the conference. Among others, RU Finance department Professor Rustom Ali, RUMUN chief adviser and Marketing department Professor Shah Azam Shantanu and Accounting and Information Systems department Professor Imran Hossain also spoke at the inaugural ceremony with RUMUN President Mohammad Sujon in the chair.
