Fazle Mahmud’s unbeaten sparkling hundred outshone Nurul Hasan Sohan’s ton as Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club swept past Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by 56 runs in the sixth-round encounter of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium yesterday.
With the triumph Prime Doleshwar improved their position on the points-table with four wins. Now they are languishing at third position just after the chart leader Abahani Limited (12) and Legends of Rupganj (eight). Rupganj placed second with their net better run-rate than Prime Doleshwar.
Put in to bat, Prime Doleshwar Cricket Club mustered an off-putting 293 for six in the stipulated 50 overs on the back of Fazle Mahmud (not out 120) and Liton Kumar Das (69).
Fazle Mahmud capitalised the solid start and helped Prime Doleshwar post a marauding total with the help of fellow batsmen. One-down Mahmud added 82 runs with Liton Kumar Das for the second wicket, 72 runs with Zohaib Khan for the fourth-wicket stand that surpassed the 200-run mark. Liton belted for 89-ball 69, while Zohaib fell for a run-a-ball 38.
Man-of-the-match Fazle Mahmud clattered 120 off 101 that laced with six sixes along with five fours at his 163-minute stay at wickets. Robiul Haque grabbed two wickets for Sheikh Jamal.
In reply, medium fast-bowler Forhad Reza coupled with Arafat Sunny halted the progress of Sheikh Jamal as they were bundled out for 237 with five overs remaining despite Nurul Hasan Sohan’s hundred.
Forhad Reza hauled four wickets, giving away 56 runs and Arafat Sunny snapped up two wickets for 51. Elsewhere at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan (BKSP), Mohammad Sharif six-wicket haul including hat-trick propelled Legends of Rupganj to edge out defending champion Gazi Group Cricketers by five wickets in the low-scoring affair.
In the face of devastating bowling assault from Mohammad Sharif, Gazi Group Cricketers were skittled out for 190 in 32.4 overs.
After taking Imrul Kayes, Manaj Tiwary and Mehedi Hasan, Mohammad Sharif completed his credible hat-trick by sending Rajibul Islam, Nadif Chowdhury and Ruhel Ahmed in the second, third and fourth delivery in the team’s 33rd over. He is the second bowler after Asif Hasan struck a hat-trick in the ongoing league.
Sharif conceded 33 runs to take up his career best six-wicket haul for Legends.
