Ferry service resumes

Ferry service on the Bhola-Laxmipur route resumed after seven days of disruption on yesterday morning.
The ferry service was suspended on August 23 as the new ferry ghat was damaged by erosion by the river Meghna.
Ferry plying on the route resumed around 10am after Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority repaired the ferry ghat.
Abul Alam Hawladar, manager of BIWTC Bhola ferry ghat, said ‘Kanakchanpa’ ferry started its operation from the ghat in the morning.
Earlier on August 10, ferry service on the Bhola-Laxmipur route resumed 16 days after its suspension. On July 26, ferry service on the route came to halt for erosion of the road up to Elisha Ferry Ghat by the Meghna.
Man stabbed by son
Benapole: A man stabbed his father for obstructing his terrorist activities at Baro Achra village here on Saturday night, reports UNB.
The victim, Abdur Rahman, a resident of the village, was admitted to Jessore Medical College Hospital with severe injuries.
Police and locals said Abdur Rahman and his son Khalid Hossain,32, locked into an altercation in the night when he tried to refrain Khalid from continuing criminal activities.
At one stage, Khalid stabbed his father with a sharp weapon, leaving Rahman severely injured. Khalid went into hiding after the incident. Assistant sub-inspector of Benapole Port Police Station said Khalid was wanted in several cases including for kidnap, extortion and smuggling with the police station.
Police are trying to arrest Khalid, the ASI added.
Three ‘robbers’ arrested
Khagrachari: Police arrested three suspected members of an inter-district robber gang while they were selling gold ornaments at a shop at Ramgarh Bazar in Ramgarh upazila on Saturday afternoon, reports UNB.
The arrestees were identified as Hemanto Marma, 35, a resident of Kolomchhori village, Motaleb, 30, a resident of Bhuyachhori village, and Mohammad Mostafa, 44, a resident of Bolipara of the upazila.
Police sources said being tipped off, a team of police led by Moin Uddin, officer-in-charge of Ramgarh police station, conducted a drive in Ramgarh Bazar area in the afternoon.
Police arrested them while they were selling some gold ornaments at a shop without any documents.
They recovered seven tolas gold ornaments and a motorbike without a number plate from the arrestees.
The sources said they are members of an inter-district robber gang.
Hemanto Marma is accused in seven robbery cases, the sources added.
