Two cops among 4 arrested for looting trader’s money

Satkhira: Detectives arrested four people, including two policemen, on Wednesday on charge of looting Tk 9.5 lakh from a cattle trader, reports UNB. The arrestees are assistant sub-inspector Abdur Rauf and constable Nadim of Dumuria Police Station in Khulna, and Moni Driver of Kamalnagar village, and Raju Hossain Ghospara village in Sadar upazila of Satkhira.

Akkas Ali, officer-in-charge of Khulna Detective Branch of police, said the two policemen snatched Tk 9.45 lakh from cattle trader Liton Sarder of Nalkura village in Satkhira Sadar upazila from Chuknagar in Khulna on February 15.

Later, the victim filed a general diary (GD) with Dumuria Police Station accusing the duo.

Khulna DB police arrested the policemen from the police station after the allegation was found to be true in primary investigation.

Later, the two others were arrested from Satkhira as per the information given by the policemen.

Two years back, ASI Abdur Rauf was arrested on charge of snatching gold from a smuggler in Patkelghata upazila of Jhenidah.

Biker killed in road crash

Nilphamari: A motorcyclist was killed and two others were injured in a road accident at Chanderhat in Sadar upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Abu Taher, 25, son of Shamser Ali of Barobari in the upazila.

Babul Akhter, officer-in-charge of Nilphamari Sadar Police Station, said the accident took place when a bus crashed into the motorcycle around 9:45am, leaving one dead on the spot and two others injured.

The injured were first taken to Sadar Modern Hospital from where they were shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as their condition was stated to be critical.

Three-day digital innovation fair begins in Mymensingh

A three-day Digital Innovation Fair-2018 began here in Mymensinagh yesterday aiming to reach the government services at the doorsteps of the rural people and bridging the people with information and communication technologies (ICT) to build digital Bangladesh.

District administration organised the fair in cooperation with the Access to Information (a2i) programme of the Prime Minister’s Office.

Secretary of the Information and Communication Technology Division Subir Kishore Chowdhury formally inaugurated the fair at a local gymnasium this morning.

Chaired by Deputy Commissioner of the district Md Khalilur Rahman, the inaugural session of the fair was addressed, among others, by Additional Divisional Commissioner Md Mozammel Haque, Superintendent of Police Syed Nurul Islam and Awami League leader Ehtasemul Alam.

Stressing the need for arranging such a fair, Subir Kishore said the innovation fair will help the authorities concerned disseminate the government services while people would be able to know about the digital services like e-governance, e-education health, e-banking and others services.

Now, he said, the country has been progressing fast through ICT digitisation process, urging the country’s young generation to come forward to engage themselves with innovation.

Earlier, a colourful rally was brought out from the premises of the DC office and ended on the premises of the local gymnasium after parading different streets.

During the three-day fair, discussion, rally, seminar and debate and quiz competitions will be held.
