KUET 12th anniversary tomorrow
Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) has chalked out an elaborate programme to celebrate its 12th founding anniversary on Tuesday, said a university press release. The release also said the programme of the day, includes hoisting national and university flags, grand rally, holding discussion at the auditorium of KUET, blood donation, cultural function, re-union of students, teachers and employees where member of the University Grant Commission (UGC) Md Mohabbat Khan is expected to attend the function as chief guest. Vice-chancellor of KUET Muhammed Alamgir will preside over the function. Established in 1967 as Khulna Engineering College at Phulbarigate of Khulna city, the college was upgraded as Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT) on July 1, 1986 and it turned into KUET on September 1, 2003.
Japanese delegation meets DU VC
A two-member delegation, led by Hidemitsu Furukawa, professor of Yamagata University, Japan, called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique at his office yesterday.
During the meeting they discussed matters of mutual interest specially the possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programmes by the University of Dhaka and Yamagata University, Japan, said a DU press release. Other member of the delegation was Hideshi Saito. Dean of the Faculty of Science of DU Mohammed Abdul Aziz, Professor of the Department of Chemistry M Abu Bin Hasan Susan and other faculty members were present on the occasion.
Admission fair begins at BU
A five-day admission fair of Bangladesh University (BU) began on its campus at Mohammadpur in the capital yesterday. The fair will continue till September 3 from 10 am to 7 pm everyday, said a press release yesterday. Admission seekers will get an opportunity to receive 10 to 100 per cent discount of tuition fees on their results of SSC and HSC. Besides, interested students will also get chance to exchange their views with the university teachers during the fair.
Indian assistance for JU drama dept
The Indian High Commission (IHC) has provided financial assistance to the Drama and Dramatics department of Jahangirnagar University (JU) to install air conditioner in the two theater labs of the department.
First Secretary of Indian High Commission Siddhartha Chhottopaddhay inaugurated the air conditioned theatre labs at the department on the campus while JU Vice-Chancellor Farzana Islam addressed the function as chief guest.
The JU VC thanked the Indian High Commission for providing assistance to Drama and Dramatics department and said this would help to strengthen the friendship between the two countries.
Addressing the function Siddhartha Chhottopaddhay said that Indian High Commission would invite the JU Drama and Dramatics department to stage dramas in Calcutta, Tripura and others regions in India.
JU Pro-VC Abul Hossain and Dean of Arts and Humanities faculty Professor Muhammad Kamrul Ahsan addressed the function as the special guests.
Presided over by the Chairman of Drama and Dramatics department Khayeruzzahan Mitu, Professor of the department Afser Ahmed and Suma Mamtaz addressed the function among others.
AIUB, Grameenphone Ltd sign MoU
American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) and Grameenphone Ltd signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday with a view of fostering academic and professional co-operation, says a press release.
Charles C Villanueva, pro vice chancellor and dean of the Faculty of Business Administration of American International University-Bangladesh, and Syed Tanvir Husain, director, centre of Expertise People & Organization of Grameenphone Ltd, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
The MoU highlights various areas of cooperation such as students’ placement, assistance for academic research, mutual sharing of experts for the benefit of the two parties. The agreement also covers the granting of certain facilities to employees of GP wishing to take up MBA and EMBA in American International University-Bangladesh.
High officials of the both organistions were also present at the MoU signing ceremony, among others.
