‘Hiralal Sen Padak’

Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS) honoured filmmaker Tauquir Ahmed with ‘Hiralal Sen Padak’ for his much-acclaimed film ‘Haldaa’.

Tauquir Ahmed received the award on the concluding day of the six-day film festival titled ‘Amar Bhasar Chalachitra’ at the TSC Auditorium of Dhaka University on Saturday.

A total of five Bangladeshi films ‘Haldaa’, ‘Bhubhan Majhi’, ‘Khacha’, ‘Gohin Baluchar’ and ‘Rina Brown’ competed for the award; among those, ‘Haldaa’ selected for the Hiralal Sen Padak.  Noted filmmaker Nasiruddin Yusuf, Junaid Halim, Jakir Hossain Raju was in the jury panel.

The story of the film ‘Haldaa’ is written by Azad Bulbul, while the screenplay of the film came from director Tauquir Ahmed himself. The intense drama film is set against the backdrop of the river Halda situated in Chittagong. The river Halda is considered to be the country's largest natural fertility breeding centre of fishes.

On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS) organised the 17th edition of the festival featuring 19 films. Among these, nine classic Bangla films like ‘Mahanagar’, ‘Megher Onek Rang’, ‘Guddi’, ‘Kacher Deyal’ and ten contemporary films like ‘Zukti Tokko Goppo’, ‘Haldaa’, ‘Gohin Baluchar’, ‘Bishorjan’ and others were screened at the festival.

To promote Bangla films and to help change the taste of audiences and bring out more talented filmmakers, DUFS has been organising the annual film festival with the slogan ‘Sustha Chalachitra, Sustha Darshak’ since its inception in 2000.
