The curtain will fall on the six-day film festival titled ‘Amar Bhasar Chalachitra’, at the TSC Auditorium of Dhaka University today.
On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS) organised the 17th edition of the festival, featuring 19 films, which began on February 12.
The closing ceremony of the festival will be held at 3:30pm where ‘Hiralal Sen Padak’ award will be conferred to one filmmaker. A total of five Bangladeshi films ‘Haldaa’, ‘Bhubhan Majhi’, ‘Khacha’, ‘Gohin Baluchar’ and ‘Rina Brown’ have been submitted for the award.
National Film Award winning director Tauquir Ahmed’s much-acclaimed film ‘Haldaa’ will be screened today at 6:30pm. The film’s story is written by Azad Bulbul, while the screenplay of the film came from director Tauquir Ahmed himself. The intense drama film is set against the backdrop of the river Halda situated in Chittagong. The river Halda is considered to be the country's largest natural fertility breeding centre of fishes. Mother fisheries lay their eggs here in April or June in new moon or full moon. In the story, the river and its nature, the soil erosion by the rivers and the flow and complicated life of the people living on the river bed have been highlighted the most.
Pinto Ghosh has directed the music of the film, while Ripon Nath designed the sound. Abhi Kathachitra is distributing the film across the country.
Two other notable films -- ‘Alor Michhil’ a 1974 Bangladeshi patriotic film directed by Narayan Ghosh Mita and a 2013 Indian Bengali film ‘Shobdo’ directed by Kaushik Ganguly will be screened today at 10am and 12:45pm respectively.
To promote Bangla films and to help change the taste of audiences and encourage talented filmmakers, DUFS has been organising the annual film festival with the slogan ‘Sustha Chalachitra, Sustha Darshak’ since its inception in 2000.
