It should be tough task for a captain to formulate a game-plan if he is given the duty just 24 hours before the match. But Mahmudullah seemed not too fazed by the issue.
As a vice-captain of the Test team, he was due to take the job after injury forced Shakib Al Hasan sidelined. But in T20 format, there was no vice-captain, leaving Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to handle the issue of the captaincy.
Tamim Iqbal was also in the contention with Mahmudullah Riyad when Shakib Al Hasan withdrew his name from the T20 squad after failing to be fit adequately. However Riyad didn’t think it would be tough for him to formulate a game-plan in shortest possible time.
“I don’t think that way. A responsibility is given on me, I will try to do my best,” he said. “It’s a short format game. If you can execute your skill well, you can thrive here. We will try to show our skill.”
He also said it the experience of leading the side in BPL would help him in doing the job perfectly.
“I will try my best to extract the best of the players. I have captained in BPL and what I believe is that you need to motivate the players and give them freedom. If the player can express him well, the chances to be successful increase a lot.”
“There are some new players in the team. I’ll try to keep them pressure-less. I will try to help them perform well, be it with some little information or with giving some advice.”
