The injury in Bangladesh Team continued to grow as opener Tamim Iqbal and batsman Mushfiqur Rahim sustained injuries after Shakib Al Hasan.
Bangladesh hard-hitting opener Tamim Iqbal received bicep injury on his left hand during the team’s practice while Mushfiqur Rahim sustained on wrist injury.
Shakib earlier sidelined for the Test and T20I series after being received injury on his left little finger while fielding in the final of the Tri-national series against Sri Lanka on January 27.
Even though Tamim and Mushfiqur’s injuries were not serious one, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) recalled wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Mithun after around two-year hiatus as a back-up player.
Tamim complained of muscle pain in his left arm and Mushfiqur did not train on Wednesday because of a wrist injury.
“Tamim felt some pain in his bicep all of sudden yesterday. This is why we are still waiting to decide our combination,” stand-in skipper Mahmudullah said Wednesday
Last time Mithun wore Tigers’ jersey when he had played against New Zealand in March 2016.
The 28-year-old right-handed batsman played so far 12 T20 Internationals for Bangladesh. He played well in the last Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for the 2017 BPL champion Rangpur Riders, the performance that drew the BCB selection panel to pick him for the last time.
But the team management is still hopeful of their playing in the opener of the Twenty20 International series against Islanders.
Prior to the T20 series, the board meanwhile gave the responsibility of the captaincy on all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad’s shoulder in the absence of the T20 regular captain Shakib Al Hasan.
