Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy organised a musical soiree titled ‘Surer Swajan’ with singers Shahana Boxi and Soumi Bhattacharya at the academy’s National Music and Dance auditorium on Tuesday. Artistes at the event rendered the songs of Pancha Kabir Gaan (songs of five poets-- Rabindranath, Nazrul, Rajnikant, Atul Prasad and DL Roy).

The programme was attended by Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky and Cultural Affairs Secretary Ibrahim Hossain Khan, among others.

Shahana Boxi rendered solo numbers like ‘Ami Okriti Odhom’, ‘Sokhi Bhabona Kahare Bole’, ‘Hridoy Amar Gopon Kore’, ‘Amra Emoni Ese Bheshe Jai’, ‘Jodi Tare Pai’, ‘Puja Amar Sango Holo’ and ‘Oder Sathe Milao’.

On the other hand, Soumi Bhattacharya rendered ‘Bhalobese Sokhi’, ‘ Shai Bhalo Kore’, De Lo Sokhi De Poraiye’, Kar Milon Chao’, ‘Eki Labonya Purno Pran’, ‘Basonti He Bhubon Mon’ and ‘Morilo Bhashite Deke’

Besides, Shahana Boxi and Soumi Bhattacharya rendered duet songs ‘Ay Tobe Sohochori’, ‘Phule Phule’, ‘Tomar Holo Suru’, ‘Sajani Sajani Radhika’ and others.

During the entire programme, the artistes were accompanied by AFM Ekram Hossain on esraj, Richard Kishore on guitar, Deba on keyboard and Debasish on tabla.

Shahana Boxi has trained under Soumi Bhattacharya and Nupur Chhnda Ghosh. She learnt Rabindra Sangeet from Soumi Bhattacharya and she learnt the songs of Atul Prasad, Rajnikant and DL Roy.

Soumi Bhattacharya completed his BA Honours (Music) and MA at Rabindra Bharati University. At present, he is an artiste of Akashvani All India Radio.
