A suspected robber was shot dead in a gunfight between two groups of robbers in Berirmatha area of Laxmipur district early yesterday, police sources said.

The deceased was identified as Jabed Mintu, member of inter-district robbery gang and son of Hossian Ahmed, a resident of Itkhola village of the union.

Mokter Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chandraganj Police Station, said two gangs of robbers engaged in a dispute over sharing of the money which triggered a gunfight, leaving Mintu bullet-hit.

On information, police rushed to the spot, rescued injured robber and sent him to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead, police sources added.

Police, however, recovered one light gun, eight rounds of bullets and 10 shells of bullets from the spot.
