An attempt to solemnise marriage of a 12-year-old girl with a 30-year-old man at Dickdair village in Sonatola upazila was foiled on Friday night with the help of local administration.
Sonatola Upazila Nirbahi Officer Habibur Rahman with a team of police stopped  the marriage of Sabli Khatun, a student of class-VI of a local high school in Dickdair village at around 8.30pm.
Marriage of Sabli, daughter of Babu Mia, was fixed with a man 30 of the same area, and the girl’s parents took all preparation in this regard, said Samim Hossain, a former Dickdair union parishad chairman.  
UNO Habibur Rahman said on receiving the
information a team of police and officials rushed to the spot and stopped the marriage.
