Police seized a large quantity of materials for making gun from a poultry feed shop at Purapara bazaar in Moheshpur upazila of Jhenidah yesterday. But none was arrested yet.
Officer-in-charge of Moheshpur police station Shahidul Islam Shahin said on receiving information from secret sources police seized 28 magazines, 17 pipes for making guns and 5 other instruments from the poultry feed shop.
The owner of the shop is Asadul Islam. The man has been involved in smuggling in the area for a long time, the OC said.
In Chapainawabganj, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 arrested an alleged arms trader with two pistols, four magazines and 10 bullets from Dadanchak in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj on Friday.
The arrestee has been identified as Md Benzir Ali, 25, of Sahapara Choighoria in Shibganj upazila of the district.RAB souces said acting on secret information, an operation team of RAB from Chapainawabganj camp raided the Adina Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Hoque Government College square at around 3:15 pm and held him with the arms and ammunition.
Later, he was handed over to the police of Shibganj police. During primary interrogation he admitted to RAB that he was involved in illegal arms business for a long time, sources added.
