Youth beaten to death

An unidentified man was beaten to death by miscreants at Battoli in Taranagar union of the Keraniganj on Saturday afternoon. The miscreants beat the man mercilessly in the area, leaving him seriously injured, said sub-Inspector Obaidul Rahman of Keraniganj Model Police Station.

A local security guard rescued him and sent to Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

Later, the body was sent to Mitford Hospital for autopsy.

Driver killed in road accident

A bus driver was killed and his helper suffered injuries in a road accident near Sarangpur Boro mosque on Dhaka-Chapainawabganj highway inRajshahi on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Bilash, 30, driver of a bus of Hanif Paribahan and hailing from Natore district.

The accident took place when a Chapainawabganj-bound bus of Hanif Paribahan collided head-on with a bus of Ekata Paribahan here around 7:30am, leaving the driver and helper badly injured, said Ali Akbar, sub-inspector of Godagari Podel Police Station. The injured were taken to Godagari 31-bed Hospital where doctors declared Bilash dead.

Fire at printing presses doused

The fire, that broke out at three printing presses and a courier service at South Keraniganj in the district on Saturday afternoon, was finally doused after nearly 11 hours of frantic efforts. The fire gutted Bookman Printers & Publishers, Balaka Press and Publication, and Sarker Printing & Publishing and Janani Courier Service, said Sajib Sarker, inspector of Keraniganj Fire Service.

On information, nine units of Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot and tamed the flame around 2am. The cause of the fire is not clear yet, said Monirul, officer-in-charge of South Keraniganj Police Station.

Abul Kalam Azad, owner of Janani Group, the mother concern of three damaged printing presses and courier service, said there are 30 printing machines, 15 binding machines, huge printing materials and books.

Dental student commits ‘suicide’

A student of Rajshahi Medical College dental unit allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her room after could not done well in examination.

The deceased was identified as Jannatul Wahida Mitu, a third year student of Bachelor of Dental Surgery of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital Dental unit and daughter of Matiur Rahman of  Chapainawabganj district. Mitu used to live with her family in  Bank Colony area of  the city.

Quoting family members, Hafizur Rahman, OC of Rajpara Police Station of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, said Mitu committed suicide by hanging herself in her room after she could not do well in her BDS examination.
