Ten people were killed in separate road accidents in Savar, Jamalpur, Noakhali, Bogra and Tangail yesterday. In Savar: Three garment workers were killed as a bus ran over them on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Ulail bus stand area yesterday, reports UNB.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. However, they were workers of Al-Islam Garments and An-Lima Yang Dying.
S M Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Savar police station, said the Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Shymali Paribahan’ hit the trio while they were returning from their workplace around 5:45am, leaving them dead on the spot.
Police seized the bus but the bus driver fled the scene.
Our Jamalpur correspondent reports: Three members of a family were killed and three others injured as a microbus plunged into a roadside ditch at Battazor on Bakshiganj-Kurigram road in Bakshiganj upazila early yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Babul Miah, 27, a resident of Battola village in Rajibpur upazila of Kurigram district, and his wife Shilpi Begum, 22, and their 10 month-old-son Abdullah.
Witnesses said a microbus carrying six passengers, including the trio, fell into a roadside ditch after its driver lost control over the steering at about 5:15 am, leaving Babul, his wife Shilpi and their son Abdullah, dead on the spot and three others injured. The injured identified as Babul’s brothers Saidur Rahman, 38, and Badsha Ali, 30, and his relative Ripon, 18, were given first aid at a local hospital. All of them were going Rajibpur by a rented micro bus from Dhaka.
Police recovered the bodies and sent those to Jamalpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police seized the microbus and arrested its driver Abu Bakkar from the spot.
Our Noakhali correspondent says: A man was killed and two others were injured when a pickup-van fell into a roadside ditch at Jaksin Bazaar in Laxmipur sadar upazila early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Babul Sikdar, 34, hail from Bhola district. OC of Sadar police Giasuddin said the accident took place at around 5am when a goods-laden pick-up van from Chittagong lost control and plunged into a roadside ditch, leaving three people injured. Local people admitted the injured to Laxmipur General Hospital where Babul died. The injured were shifted to Noakhali General Hospital.
In Bogra: Two persons were killed and four others injured in a road accident at Sherua-Battala area in Sherpur upazila yesterday morning, reports BSS.
The deceased were identified as Shaymal, 28, and Polash, 32. Assistant Superintendant of Police Gaziur Rahman said the accident occurred when a truck collided with a pickup van in the area at about 7 am, leaving van driver Shaymal dead on the spot and five others injured. The injured were sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where pickup van passenger Polash succumbed to his injuries.
In Tangail: Hazera Begum, 65, was killed on the spot and two others were injured when a Dhaka-bound covered van hit a rickshaw van on Bhuapur link road on the Bangabandhu Bridge highway yesterday, reports BSS.
In another accident, 13 passengers were injured when a Sirajganj bound bus of Ovi Enterprise from Dhaka collided head-on with a Dhaka bound bus in Bathkura area on Dhaka-Tangail highway. The injured passengers were admitted to Tangail General Hospital and different other clinics.
