The governing body of Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd, runners-up of Bangladesh Premier Football League, paid tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreaths at his graveyard marking his 40th death anniversary and the National Mourning Day at Tungipara in Gopalganj on Thursday, says a press release.
After placing the wreath, directors and high officials of the football club stood in solemn silence in front of the grave for some time and also offered munajat.
Earlier, a special prayer session was held at the Government Sheikh Mujibur Rahman College ground seeking salvation of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his family members who were killed on August 15 in 1975.
On the occasion, special foods were distributed among students and orphans at Sheikh Russel Sishu Niketon School and Sheikh Russel Dustha Proshikkhan Kendra at Tungipara. Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra vice-president Meer Samir, director in-charge Ismat Jamil Akand Lavlu, director (sports) Saleh Jaman, director (finance) Abdul Latif were present, among others, at the programme.
Maksudur Rahman, secretary to Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir, was also present at the programme. Local leaders, including Tungipara upazila parishad chairman Gazi Golam Mustafa and Tungipara pourashava mayor Elias Hossain, were also present. Founded in 1995, Sheikh Russel KC won the league title in 2012-13 season, the Independence Cup in 2013 and Federation Cup in 2012.
