Alok Kapali’s all-round scintillation outshone Nahidul Islam’s 88 along with half centuries from Zakir Hasan and Kunal Chandela as Brothers Union Limited vault past Prime Bank Cricket Club by 24 runs in the second round fixture of the Walton-Dhaka Premier League (DPL) at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan (BKSP) Ground-3 in Savar yesterday.

Legends of Rupganj thrashed Mohammedan sporting Club by 62 runs to post their first win in DPL at the Khan Shahed Osman Ali Stadium (KSOAS) in Fatullah.

Elsewhere at the BKSP’s Ground-4, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club registered their back-to-back win by beating Agrani Bank with 28-run victory.

Prime Bank vs Brothers

Put in to bat, Brothers Union made a good start on BKSP’s batting track. They compiled a healthy total of 294 for seven in the stipulated 50 overs thanks largely to top and middle-order contribution.

Top-order batsmen Junaid Siddique (45), Mizanur Rahman (36) and Myshukur Rahman (30) laid the foundation for the Brothers. Alok Kapali-Yasir Ali gave a big boost in Brothers’ innings as the duo shared 95 for the fifth-wicket stand. Before being dismissed, Alok Kapali top-scored for the Gopibagh out-fit with 79.  Kapali clouted five sixes and as many fours in his 67-ball knock. Yasir Ali attempted to stretch the total further with the fellow batsmen. He was at stumps on 69. Fast bowler Delwar Hossain and Ariful Haque bagged two wickets each for Prime Bank.

In reply, Prime Bank Cricket Club managed to put up 270 in 47.4 overs despite Nahidul Islam (88) fifty-plus score along with half centuries from Zakir Hasan (50) and Kunal Chandela (50). Alok Kapali grabbed three wickets including Zakir and Chandela and was later adjudged man of the match. He was aided by young fast bowler Khaled Ahmed and spinner Suhrawardi Shuvo, the duo who picked up two wickets each for the winners.

MSC vs Rupganj

Mohammedan Sporting Club captain Shamsur Rahman Shuvo decided to use his bowlers after winning the toss in Fatullah. Initially they were succeeded in their gameplan as they did not allow Legends of Rupgang as the latter managed to put on 231 for seven on the board. Young pacer Qazi Onik was the pick, who scalped five for 44 in his allotted 10 overs.

Opener Abdur Mazid clattered 115-ball 70, the highest of the innings that laced with three sixes and as many fours.

Avishek Mitra (45 not out), Tushar Imran (40), Naeem Islam (36) and Salauddin Pappu (22) were the other notable contributors for the Legends.

Chasing the target, Mohammedan Sporting Club though got off to a good start but could not maintain the tempo due to the lack of big partnership. As a result, they managed to score 169 before being all-out in 44.3 overs.

Captain Shamsur Rahman Shuvo (34), Rakibul Hasan (32), Rony Talukdar (30), Salman Butt (21), Irfan Sukkur (19 and Enamul Haque (18) were the mentionable scorers of the Motijheel out-fit.
