Despite being announced Bangladesh T20 squad with injured captain Shakib Al Hasan for the first T20 of the two-match T20 International series against Sri Lanka, a speculation was spread in and around the sport arena that Shakib couldn’t play in T20 series.

The news finally came to the fore while Shakib himself told media on Sunday that the situation of his injury may not allow him to feature in the T20 series.

“There is ‘probably’ no possibility of my playing in T20 series because the doctor told that the injury will take another two weeks to recover  fully,”

said Shakib Al Hasan, who sustained finger injury during the triangular series final on January 27 that ruled him out of the subsequent Test series against the Islanders.

Shakib’s bandage was removed for examination of the wounded area on February 10 (Saturday). The doctor found that the wounded are has not healed yet. There is still pain around the injured area.

And so, the iconic all-rounder raised question and said, “How could I play if such thing is happened?

Later he said that “Being recuperated fully by doing proper rehabilitation I could be back within the two weeks. Hopefully I could be played in Nidahas Cup in Sri Lanka,” Shakib told media while speaking at an event whereby he was announced as the brand ambassador of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in the capital city yesterday.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu along with BCB chief physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury gave the same indication of Shakib’s injury.

Nannu said that they are expecting Shakib in the second T20 though he misses the opener.

“We told BCB physician and team physio to inform the current injury status of the Shakib Al Hasan. We could get to know about the actual status after being informed by them,” Minhajul Abedin said.

“I can tell at the moment that it’s not possible for Shakib to play the first match of the T20 series on February 15. But we hope he could play the second match of the series,” Nannu told media.

Though Nannu hopes to get Shakib in the second T20 match, Dr Debashis on the other hand didn’t give any certitude of Shakib’s comeback in the tour-ending second T20 fixture against the visitors on February 18.

“I can’t say with the guarantee how many days will be needed for Shakib to become fit. And so, we’re not confirming you all about his return to the T20 series,” Dr Debashis Chowdhury said.

Later on, when asked him about the T20I seires, Shakib said that they though could not fare well in Test will claw back in T20 series.

“Everybody had a target to win the Test series. But it’s not always happened in cricket what everybody wishes. That’s a normal thing,” the premier all-rounder of the globe said, adding: “But I’m very much hopeful that we will bounce back in T20 and could do a good result.”
