Tree plantation programme kicks off
Green University of Bangladesh in collaboration with Bangladesh Air Force organised a tree plantation programme at Old Airport in the capital recently. Green University of Bangladesh donated 1,400 saplings of coconut, lychee, amrapali, mehagoni, neem, telsur, amloki, gamari and teak to Bangladesh Air Force. Prof Dr Md Golam Samdani Fakir, vice chancellor of GUB, handed over the saplings to Air Vice Marshal Abul Bashar, second-in- command of Bangladesh Air Force. To mark the opening of the programme, Prof Dr Md Golam Samdani Fakir and Air Vice Marshal Abul Bashar jointly planted a sapling. Treasurer of the university Shahidullah, faculty members, students of Green University of Bangladesh and some high officials of Bangladesh Air Force took part in the tree plantation programme. Later a discussion meeting was held at Bangladesh Air Force Auditorium. Air Vice Marshal Abdul Bashar thanked Green University of Bangladesh for organising and supporting such a noble initiative as tree plantation.
Admission begins at EU
Admission fair for the fall semester-2015 began at Eastern University (EU) on Saturday. EU vice chancellor Prof Dr Abdur Rab inaugurated the process in presence of Prof Dr Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, pro-vice chancellor of the university, Prof Dr Borhan Uddin Khan, adviser, Faculty of Law, Major General Kazi Ashfaq Ahmed, psc (Retd), registrar, A S M G Faruk, director (admission) and deputy directors, teachers and officials and students of the university were present. The admission process will continue from August 22 to 24, 2015 from 09:00 am to 5:00 pm every day. Students seeking admission in the summer semester 2015 will enjoy 40 discount on admission fee. Attractive waiver will be offered at the event. Students will get valuable information and advice of different career plans from experienced faculty members of EU and career counselor.
National Mourning Day observed at BUBT
National Mourning Day marking the 40th death anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed by Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) through a programme on the campus in a befitting manner. A discussion and a prayer session were arranged on the campus at Rupnagar on Sunday (August 16). Prof Md Abu Saleh, vice chancellor of BUBT, attended the programme as the chief guest. Prof Md Ali Azam, academic adviser, attended the programme as the special guest while Prof Mian Lutfar Rahman, proctor of the university was in the chair. Md Rashidul Islam, registrar, lauded the role of Bangabandhu in unifying the nation for participating in the intendance was against the Pakistani occupation forces. He commented that Bangabandhu was one of the greatest political organiszers of the contemporary world. Prof Md Ali Azam described Bangabandhu as a great patriot and a strong rebel voice against injustice. He appealed to all to follow the ideology of Bangabandhu, irrespective of party belief and opinion. Prof Md Abu Saleh highlighted why Bangabandhu is called the greatest Bangali of thousand of years. He stated that Bangabandhu, Bangladesh and the independence of Bangladesh are interlinked in the same thread; one is useless without the other.

Training on sustainable living held at ULAB
An interactive class on Sustainable Living was held at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) recently. The class took place on the university’s permanent campus in Ramchandrapur, Mohammadpur. The day-long class was part of the university’s training programme titled ‘Skills for Life’.
The class was conducted by ULAB faculty members Dr Hamidul Huq and Dr Shahana Afrose Chowdhury while Shafiqul Islam conducted the course.
The class was designed as a combination of lectures, group discussion, individual assignment and workshop. The students were especially trained on sustainable living/ green living. The course specifically focused on areas such as sustainable living/green living, current problems of the planet and why sustainable living is important to effectively deal with it, organic farming, and living hand in hand with nature instead of destroying it.
AIUB signs MoU with BCC, Ernst & Young LLP
American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) singed a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) and Ernst & Young LLP (EY) recently. AIUB was represented by its Vice Chancellor Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna while BCC and EY were represented respectively by Abul Kalam Azad, joint secretary, ministry of ICT, and Kamlesh Vyas, project director of EY. It will help AIUB become a project partner for this program and enhance faculty development opportunities. Procession against Aug 21 grenade attack at IU The authorities of Islamic University in Kushtia yesterday arranged a procession protesting the August 21 grenade attack on an Awami League rally.
The procession 10am led by IU Vice-chancellor Abdul Hakim Sarker was brought out around from in front of the administrative building of the university. After parading the entire campus, it ended at the same place. IU Pro-vice chancellor Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman, IUTA former president Prof Dr Abul Ahsan Chowdury, former secretary Prof Dr Harun-Ur Rahsid Askari, secretary Prof Dr AHM Akhtarul Islam Zillu, Bangabandhu Parishad secretary Prof Dr Ruhul K. M. Saleh, Student Adviser Prof Anwar Hossen, IU unit BCL president M Saiful Islam and secretary Amit Kumar Das, among others, joined the procession.
