Vote for AL again to continue development: Amu

JHALOKATI: Awami League Advisory Council Member and Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu yesterday said Bangladesh is progressing fast and it is believed that the country would turn into a developed one before 2041, reports BSS.

“Bangladesh is developing fast...If you want to continue this development, you have to vote the AL to power again under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said, speaking at a view exchange meeting at Nabagram High School ground here. Amu was exchanging views with local Awami League leaders and workers with AL Nabagram Union President Kanchan Ali Mia in the chair.

AL district unit General Secretary Khan Saifullha Panir, Joint Secretary Sultan Hossain Khan and Organizing Secretary Mojibul Haque Akandh, among others, addressed the meeting. Amu said BNP and Jamaat are conducting destructive activities to take the country backward. But, Awami League is working relentlessly for the betterment of the country, he added.

“Awami League is working in every sector including health, education, women empowerment and power for the welfare of the common people,” Amu said.

Later, Amu joined the annual sports competition programme and distributed prizes among the winners at Haji Joyan Uddin Dwini Dakhil Madrasha.

Benapole Press club gets new committee

BENAPOLE: Mohsin Milon, local correspondent of UNB and Rasedur Rahman of Jamuna TV, have been elected president and general secretary of Benapole Press Club, reports UNB.

The election of Benapole Press Club's executive body was held on Friday while the results were announced on Saturday. Bokul Mahbub of the daily Bangladesh Protidin and Jamal Hossain of Ekusey TV were elected vice presidents.

The other office bearers are, office secretary - Milon Hossain of Boisakhi TV, joint secretary - Sajedur Rahman of daily Samokal, organising secretary - Muslim Uddin Pappu of Ekattor TV, publicity secretary - Md Sheik Nasir Uddin of SA TV, literary and cultural secretary - Salim Reja of daily Dhaka Tribune, treasurer - Mosiar Rahman of daily Sokaler Khabor and members - Dabul Kumar Das of daily Sangbad, Rokonuzaman of daily Khola Kagoj, and Shisir Kumar of Mohona TV.

31 held, drugs seized in Dinajpur

DINAJPUR: Police, in special drives arrested 28 persons including three activists of BNP and five drug traders from different areas of the district in last 12-hour ending at 8am yesterday morning, reports BSS.

Law enforcers also recovered 220 bottles of Phensidyl, 122 pieces of Yaba tablets, 350-gram of Ganja, 3,500 pieces of cow fattening tablets and 261 pieces of Pethidine Injection during the drives. Police said they were picked up from different areas of the district.

During the drives, Dinajpur Sadar police arrested seven persons including three activists of BNP from Chawlar Potti of the town around 11pm, Chirirbandar Thana police arrested four persons, Birampur Thana police arrested two drug traders with 220 bottles of Phensidyl from Nawabganj Rail Gundi around 11:30pm, Nawabganj Thana police arrested two persons, Khansama Thana police arrested three persons, Biral Thana police arrested two persons, Birganj Thana police arrested three persons including one drug trader with 122 pieces of Yaba tablets from Kabiraj Haat around 11pm, Kaharole Thana

police arrested three persons and Parbatipur Thana police arrested two drug traders with 350-gram of Ganja from Bangali Para of the upazila around 7am. Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added. Meanwhile, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive detained three alleged drug traders with 261 pieces of Pethidine Injection and 3,500 pieces of cow fattening tablets around 6am from Hili railway station in Hakimpur upazila of the district.
