Riyad bemoans Shakib’s absence in Test series

Buoyed up by the win-like draw in Chittagong Test, Bangladesh came into the series-deciding second Test in Mirpur by devising a batsmen-centric gameplan for what later backfired for their shocking drubbing.

The home side could not implement their gameplan in right vein due to the batting frailty what was initiated from the first innings as they were skittled out for a paltry 110 at their home of cricket.

‘‘The way we staged a comeback from the precarious situation and drew the Test that was a big boost for our confidence. Being inspired in that, wicket in Mirpur was prepared for us,’’ said stand-in captain Mahmudullah Riyad yesterday.

‘‘Beside our capable batsmen, we had also a good spin attack. But it would be the same thing if you planned to play on three to four days for drawing. At least, there will have chance for you whether you win or lose the match,’’ Riyad told reporters.

‘‘We would know that the result in this Test will be happened. I believe we’ve capability and skills but we could not showcase it. Hopefully the good result will come when we could show our skills,’’ he added.

Riyad said that they feel the absence of Shakib whose batting and bowling performance that was instrumental for the team’s success.

What number of Tests Bangladesh so far played since its inception in Test arena he was more helpful for the team. Overall, the Tigers played 106 Tests in where they triumphed 10.
