10 killed in road accidents

Separate road accidents killed 10 people, including four members of a family, and injured 20 others on Dhaka-Khulna and Sunamganj-Sylhet highways respectively yesterday.

In Faridpur, a Dhaka-bound bus of Imad transport from Khulna rammed an auto rickshaw as the ‘visibility was low’ due to excessive fog in early hours yesterday in Bhanga Choursta area on the Dhaka-Khulna highway.   

The accident killed three passengers of the auto rickshaw on the spot and injured two others seriously. Later, the injured were rushed to Bhanga Upozila Health Complex where doctor declared them dead.

The deceased were identified as the auto rickshaw driver Abul Sheikh (35), of Pachkul Village in Bhanga, Khadiza Begum (33), from Chowdhury Kanda village of Bhanga municipality, and Mizan Sheikh (50) while two others remained unidentified.

In Sunamganj, four members of a family were killed during a head-on collision between a Sylhet-bound bus and a Sunamgnaj-bound private car at 12 noon. The accident also left 20 people injured, adds UNB.  

The deceased were identified as Abdus Shahid, 70, his wife Hafsanul Begum, 60, their son Kabir Ahmed, 40, daughter Afsunnesa, 35, and driver Sabbir Miah. The driver, Sabbir, died on his way to hospital.
