Authorities have prepared two separate rooms of two different jails—one at the Central Jail on Nazimuddin Road of Dhaka and another at the Kashimpur Central Women's Jail in Gazipur—to keep BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia if the verdict in the Zia Orphanage graft case goes against her today.

If convicted, Khaleda Zia would be kept at the Central Jail on Nazimuddin road in old Dhaka and then the prison department would transfer her to the Kashimpur Central Women's Jail, according to sources in the jail department.

A senior official of the jail department said that the jail authorities have renovated the women's cell of the jail to keep the BNP chief. “The jail department has posted two deputy jailers, including a woman deputy jailer, to guard Khaleda Zia if she is kept in the jail,” he added. “The authorities concerned will be posted a doctor (physician), who will be on duty round the clock to provide healthcare facilities to the former premier,” the official said.

“Standard security measures would be taken to ensure foolproof security of the BNP chairperson in and around the jail. As a former prime minister, Khaleda Zia will get maximum facilities in prison,” he told The Independent.

Sources said Khaleda is likely to be transferred to the Kashimpur Central Women's Jail if she does not get bail soon.

Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that the authorities concerned are ready to keep Khaleda Zia as per the jail code if she is convicted by the court today. “It's the matter of the court whether the BNp chairperson would be punished or acquitted,” he added.

A special court in Dhaka fixed February 8 for delivering its verdict in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case in which Khaleda Zia is an accused.
