Three-day tea expo to begin Feb 18

Bangladesh Tea Expo-2018 will begin on February 18 with a view to expanding market and promoting tea related products as well as boosting production with new varieties, reports BSS. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the three-day expo in capital’s International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB). The Ministry of Commerce and Bangladesh Tea Board (BTB) is organising the expo.

“The expo will bring the people related to tea production, marketing and other related jobs under a single rooftop to showcase the industry to all,” said Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed while briefing the media on the expo at his ministry office in Dhaka yesterday.

He said the second edition of the expo would be organised in a more colorful and festive manner following the experience of the last event. The first edition of Bangladesh Tea Expo was held on January 12-14 last year where 46 organisations including seven from India participated and over 20,000 people visited the expo.

Mentioning that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman became the first Bengali Chairman of Tea Board in 1957-58, Tofail Ahmed said he (Bangabandhu) had carried out significant progress in tea cultivation, infrastructure development and labour welfare.
