Why dismissal of JnU teacher not illegal: HC

The High Court on Tuesday issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain as to why the dismissal of a Jagannath University (JnU) teacher should not be declared illegal, reports UNB.

An HC bench comprising Justice M Ashfqul Islam and Justice KM Kamrul Kader came up with the rule following a writ petition. Secondary and Higher Education Division secretary, JnU vice-chancellor and its registrar have been asked to reply to the rule within four weeks. Shahdeen Malik assisted by M Manjur Alam and M Tayyeb-ul-Islam Sourav argued for the JnU teacher, Mir Mosharraf Hossain, assistant professor of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department. Sourav said university authorities on August 10 last dismissed Mosharraf on charges of misconduct, moral turpitude, negligence of duty and unprofessionalism. A probe body was formed to look into the allegations which suggested his termination without giving the teacher any scope of self-defence, the lawyer said, adding that under such circumstances, his dismissal is illegal.
