Crack develops at SBMCH building

Several cracks have appeared yesterday on four out of seven frontal pillars of Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) building which were constructed for beautification a few years ago.

Hospital sources said, local people noticed the cracks at the upper side of four pillars yesterday afternoon and informed the matter to the hospital authorities.

The discovery of the crack caused alarm among the patients.

Alauddin, senior station officer of Barisal Fire Service and Civil Defence, said on information three firefighting units rushed to the spot and removed the vulnerable pillars.

He said the fifty years old SBMCH building need proper maintenance and care.

Acknowledging the fact, Dr Abu Fazal, director of SBMCH, said an inspection of the building is needed and it will be started soon.

He assured that the rest three pillars of the building will be removed within 24 hours.
