CHITTAGONG: A Chittagong court yesterday sentenced four people to life term imprisonment for killing a man 13 years ago, reports BSS.
The third court of Chittagong Additional District and Sessions Judge Munshi Abdul Majid pronounced the verdict convicting Jamal Uddin, Alamgir, Mohammad Lokman and Mohammad Jamal Uddin.
The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each, in default, to suffer more two years imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, the convicts gunned down Suman Kanti Dhar after refusing to pay extortion from businessman Babul at Boro Kumira Bazar under Sitakunda upazila on July 8, 2005.
Victim’s father Babul Kanti Dhar filed a murder case with Sitakunda police station on July 9 in 2005.
Police submitted chargesheet accusing four people on May 25, 2006. The court pronounced the judgment after examining 15 witnesses.
The judge delivered the verdict in absentia of the four convicts who remained fugitive after getting bail, court sources said.
