2 held over blogger Niloy killing

Detectives yesterday arrested two suspected members of banned militant outfit 'Ansarullah Bangla Team’ in connection with the murder of blogger Niladri Chatterjee Niloy from the capital’s Mirpur and Shyampur areas, reports UNB. The arrested men were identified as Kawsar Hossain Khan, 29, and Kamal Hossain Sardar, 29. They are also accused in an attempted murder case for an attack on another blogger, Asif Mohiuddin, two years ago. A team of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Kawsar from Mirpur-10 around 5pm, while Kamal Hossain was nabbed from Dholaipar in Shyampur around 6:30pm, said DB Deputy  Commissioner (East) Mahbubul Alam.
On August 7, Niloy was hacked to death by unidentified assailants inside his fourth-floor flat at North Goran in the city. He was the fourth Bangladeshi blogger to be killed this year.
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court yesterday granted three days’ fresh remand for three suspected members of 'Ansarullah Bangla Team' in connection with the blogger Avijit Roy and Ananta Bijoy murder cases.
The remanded suspects are Bangladeshi-born UK citizen Tawhidul Islam, 58, Sadek Ali Mithu, 28, and Aminul Mollik, 35.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur passed the remand order when Inspector (DB) M Fazlur Rahman, also the investigation officer of the cases, produced them before the court, seeking 10 more days of remand to interrogate them further.
On August 19, the court had placed them on a seven-day remand after their arrest from different areas of the city.
Avijit Roy, founder of Mukto-Mona blog, was killed and his wife Rafida Afrin Banya seriously injured on the Dhaka University campus on February 26.
On May 12, Ananta Bijoy Das, blogger and activist of Sylhet Ganajagaran Mancha, was hacked to death by a group of assailants at Subidbazar Bankalapara in Sylhet city.
