Two fake DB men arrested

Two fake personnel of the detective branch (DB) of police were detained from Mymensingh Central Jail area yesterday.
The arrestees were identified as Mir Hossain, 40 and Rony Miah, 32, both hailing from the town’s Sankipara area.
Identifying themselves as the constables of DB, Mir Hossain and Rony Miah had allegedly been threatening the family members of an alleged drug dealer, saying that if they do not give them money, Hossain and Rony would arrest the drug dealer and send him to jail, said Md Ashiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge of DB (Mymensingh).
He said when the detainees were demanding money from the family members of the drug dealer, jail police of Mymensingh informed the matter to their high officials and the fake DB men were held from the jail area around yesterday evening.
‘Robber’ injured in gunfight

A suspected robber sustained bullet injuries in a reported gunfight with police in Binodpur area of Sadar upazila early yesterday.
Tipped off that a gang of robber preparing for committing robbery, a team of police conducted a drive in the area, said A S M Mahatab Uddin, superintendent of Laxmipur Police.
When the team reached the spot the robbers opened fire on police, triggering the gunfight which left the robber Belgium Sumon injured with bullet. Police also recovered a pistol and three round bullets. Later, police arrested another suspected robber Kamrul Hasan and CNG auto-rickshaw driver Selim.
Man beaten dead at mosque
Munshiganj: A youth was killed in a mosque where he took shelter on Thursday evening, as some miscreants severely charged him with batons after he took shelter at a mosque at Jashaldia village in Lawhajong upazila, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Nurujjaman, 26, son of Hasen Molla of the village, who had been working at Jatrabari fish transport counter. Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge of Lawhajong Police Station Anisur Rahman said Nurujjaman locked into an altercation with one Masum near the Padma Bridge project area and thrashed him. Later, Masum along with his friends counterattacked with sticks and batons forcing Nurrujjaman to enter the mosque and seek shelter but his opponents followed him there and beat him up mercilessly.
Nuruzzaman died around 7pm on the way to Dhaka hospital, the OC added.detainees were handed over to DB police around 7.30pm.
Split body of woman found
SHERPUR: Police found the split body of a missing woman in Nalitabari Upazila of the district yesterday, reports BSS.
The woman was identified as Roksana Begum, 22, a resident at Bangaon Purbo Para village under Jhenigati Upazila. She went missing on January 17 in Nalitabari Upazila. Sirajul Islam is her father.
Police said on information they recovered Roksana’s split body from a crop filed near Surot Khal noon. Local people said one Masud brought poor Roksana at his house in Nalitabari by offering work on that day.
