Students of DU music department perform 
at National Museum

Students of Department of Music, University of Dhaka performed at a musical evening, organised by Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, at the Nat’l Museum in the capital on Wednesday. Directed by the chairperson of the Department of Music, Dr Leena Taposhi Khan, students of the DU music department presented some items on Classical, Nazrul Sangeet, Rabindra Sangeet and Folk Music. The chorus rendition includes ‘Aloker Ei Jharnadhara’, ‘Yaad Piya Ki’, ‘O Je Mane Na Mana’, ‘Chol Chol Chol’, ‘Ajo Kande’, ‘Onjali Loho Mor’, ‘O Sui NA Shunang’, ‘Shankhashunyo Lokkho Konthe’, ‘Tumi Kon Ba Deshe’, ‘Manush Bhojle Sonar Manush’.

The singers were accompanied by Dalim Kumar Barua on Keyboard, Nasir Hossain on Guitar and Prasen Roy on Tabla during the entire programme.

Department of Music was earlier known as ‘Department of Theatre & Music’ which started Bachelor in Music course in 1998. Since then it has been one of the flourishing & ornamental departments in the University of Dhaka. Department of Music separated from the Department of Theatre in 2009. There are five disciplines in this Department, namely, ‘Classical Music’, ‘Nazrul Sangeet’, ‘Rabindra Sangeet’, ‘Folk Music’, ‘Instrumental (Tabla)’. At present students are doing their B. A (Hons.) and Masters in these disciplines. l
