MF Husain’s first graphic show in Dhaka underway at Galleri Kaya

The first ever solo graphic exhibition of internationally-acclaimed modern Indian painter Maqbool Fida Husain titled ‘M. F. HUSAIN-Journey in graphics’ is currently underway at Galleri Kaya in the capital’s Uttara area. Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith inaugurated the exhibition on Wednesday. Muhith said in his speech, “I want to especially thank Galleri Kaya for bringing Maqbool Fida Husain’s artworks here. We need exhibitions like this to amplify the sense of art and culture.”

With the blend of cubism and classical Indian styles, the art works of MF Husain include subject as diverse as Mohandas K. Gandhi, Mother Teresa, The Ramayana, The Mahabharata, The British raj and motifs of Indian urban and rural life.

A selection of 59 works done in Serigraph, lithograph and Silk Screen on paper is being showcased in this exhibition. Bhisma (Mahabharata) an offset lithograph painting on paper, Draupadi with five incarnations, Shiva Parvati, Theorama Christianity a silk screen painting on paper, Darshan and Eternal Mother a serigraph painting on paper are among the notable graphics that are on display in this exhibition.

MF Husain is widely popular for his depiction of horses in his art works and a few of the paintings from his ‘Horse’ series are also being showcased in the exhibition.

One of the most celebrated and internationally recognized Indian artists of the 20th century; MF Husain also received recognition as a printmaker, photographer, and filmmaker. He was born on 17 September 1915 in Pandharpur, Maharashtra, India. MF Husain died, aged 95, on June 9  in 2011, following a heart attack.

Sponsored by the ADN Group and Suhan & Anis Ahmed Foundation, the exhibition is open to the visitor everyday from 11am to 7:30pm, until January 31.
