A twelve years old girl was raped allegedly by her neighbour at Pahartali area on Wednesday night. One youth has been arrested in this conncetion. The victim was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) and she is now out of danger, said Md Zahirul Islam, sub-inspector of CMCH police outpost. Police arrested the alleged rapist Md Belal Hossain, 28, hailed from Charfashion of Bhola. “The minor girl along with her parents lives at a rented house in Pahartali area. “The girl was lured into Belal’s room on Wednesday evening and he raped her. Later she informed the matter to her family, the family members of the victim and local people caught the alleged rapist and handed over to police,” said the OC.
Meanhile, a Chittagong court yesterday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for raping a ten-year-old girl in Chamble area of Banskhali of Chittagong in 2010. The court also fined the convict, Chalim Ullah, son of Badiual Alam, Tk 50,000. The court of Rezaul Karim of Children and Women Repression Prevention Court-1 handed down the verdict. According to the verdict, on April 24, 2010, at around 4pm, the rape victim had gone to a nearby jungle to bring their goats from the jungle. Finding alone the girl, Chalim Ullah raped her forcibly. Five days later, the victim’s mother filed a rape case with Banskhali police station. Advocate Jesmin Akhter, public prosecutor of the tribunal, told The Independent, “The court awarded the accused life-term imprisonment as the charges against him under Women and Children Repression and Prevention Act- 9(1) were proved.
