Orientation of Spring Semester held at AIUB

The orientation of newly enrolled students of undergraduate and graduate programmes for the Spring Semester 2017-2018 of American International University – Bangladesh (AIUB) was held on Monday on the university campus in Kuril, says a press release.

The Vice-chancellor Dr Carmen Z Lamagna chaired the event and addressed to newly admitted students. Deans of the four faculties were also spoke on this occasion.

 The director of (Student Affairs) welcomed the new students and presented the methods of teaching, the formation of courses, and examination of results, rules and regulation of the university.  The Registrar, Department Heads, Directors, Teachers, student and guardians were present on the orientation.

IU Rotaract Club gets new body

ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY: Imran Nazir and Akhtar Hossain Azad have been elected the president and the secretary respectively of Rotaract Club of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on Monday.

The election was held at Teachers Students Cultural Centre (TSCC) of the university.

PP Rtr Mustafa Zubayer Alam announced the result of the election as the chief election commissioner in the evening. The newly elected president and secretary, later, will form a full-fledged body, PP Rtr Mustafa Zubayer Alam said.

Pitha Festival at Engineering College

A day-long traditional Pitha Utshob (festival) was held on the Faridpur Engineering College premises on Monday.

The students and teachers of Engineering College organised the festival and Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman inaugurated it. Thousands gathered on the college premises to celebrate the festival and the premises turned into an opportunity for reconciliation.

Different stalls displayed more than 50 varieties of traditional winter pithas including bhapa, chitai, pakan, pati sapta, Dudh Kuli, Roshpakan, Khrepakan, Adipakan, Apple Pitha, Naru Pitha, Dim (Egg) pitha, Tara Pitha, Puli Pitha, Semai Pitha, etc.

Jakia Tajin Antar, a student of the college and organiser of the festival, said, “We organised the Pitha Utshob to spread the spirit of our Bengalee tradition among the new generation.” People from all walks of life sampled the delicious traditional pithas and recited their past.

Shipra Gowshami, a visitor of the festival said the festival created scope for a new generation to acquaint themselves with our traditions. She also hopes that the authority will arrange the festival again next year.

5th annual research conference at SUST

SYLHET: The 5th annual research conference of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) began on Sunday at the mini auditorium of the university.

Professor Abdul Mannan, chairman ofthe University Grants Commission, inaugurated the programmee presided over by Professor Farid Uddin, vice-chancellor of the university.

For significant contributions in research Dr. Mohammad Yonus, professor of the Department of Chemistry and Dr. Sah Mohammad Atikul Haq, assistant professor of the Department of Sociology were awarded Vice-Chancellor Award at the inaugural ceremony.

Pastry festival held at IU

KUSHTIA: A pastry festival was held at Islamic University in Kushtia on Sunday amid festive mood and much enthusiasm.

The students of accounting and information systems department organised the festival in front of the university's central Gymnasium in the morning.

IU vice-chancellor Professor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari was present at the festival as chief guest while its treasurer Prof M Selim Toha, acting registrar SM Abdul Latif and proctor Prof M Mahbubar Rahman attended as special guests with the departmental chairman, Professor Selina Nasrin in the chair.

More than 20 items of pastries were offered at the festival.
