In a rather unusual move, State Minister for Education Kazi Keramat Ali has selected her daughter Kaniz Fatima Chaity as his assistant personal secretary (APS). A circular issued yesterday by the Public Administration Ministry said the appointment of Begum Kaniz Fatima Chaity was made as per the wish of State Minister for Technical and Madrasa Education Division Kazi Keramat Ali, MP. When contacted over the matter, personal secretary of the state minister, Mohammad Kabir, told The Independent yesterday that the appointment was made as per the minister’s desire as his daughter in involved in Juba League politics and added that appointment to the APS position are always made as per the wishes of the ministers. The ministry circular, signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Alia Meher, said the appointment of Begum Kaniz Fatima Chaity, father: Kazi Keramat Ali, Mother: Rebeca Sultanat, would be made as per national pay scale 2015 and said she would remain in the position as long as the state minister holds his office, or wishes his APS to remain in service.

Awami League lawmaker Kazi Keramat Ali was elected MP from Rajbari-1 parliamentary constituency in the last national election in 2014. He took oath as the state minister for education (Technical and Madrasa Education Division) on January 02. Kaniz Fatema Chaity, born on November 03, 1981 is the state minister’s only child.
