President M Abdul Hamid yesterday asked the private university authorities to take pragmatic steps in ensuring quality higher studies along with increasing the rate of higher education in Bangladesh, reports BSS. “There is no alternative to ensuring the quality in higher studies”, the president told a delegation of the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB) that called on him at Bangabhaban. The delegation was led by APUB chairman Sheikh Kabir Hossain.

“The President has directed the private university authorities to shun the attitude to do business with education and ensure world-standard quality education as a part of development tools,” President's Press Secretary M Joynal Abedin said. The president categorically urged the authorities concerned, specially the education ministry, University Grants Commission (UGC) and private universities, to make joint efforts to resolve the existing problems in the university education and prepare the students for the global competition.
