The government is going to set up three separate commissionerates for the foreigners working at Mongla, Uttara and Ishwardi Export Processing Zones (EPZs), reports BSS.
“These commissionerates will be set up under the supervision of Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority (BEPZA),” said an official at the National Board of Revenue (NBR) yesterday.
The NBR in this regard has already asked the concerned commissioners for giving approval to the EPZs for setting up three commissionerates at these three EPZs.
The NBR official said this decision was taken at a recent review meeting between the NBR and the investors of EPZ.
Talking to the news agency, General Manager of the Public Relations Division of BEPZA Nazma Binte Alamgir said around 400 foreigners mainly from China, Japan and South Korea are working in these three EPZs and once set up, they would get duty free facilities from these commissionerates.
Since the 1970s, developing nations have seen EPZ's as a way of stimulating their economies by encouraging investment from the developed world. Bangladesh government is going to set up 100 export processing zones and also allows setting up private export processing zones in the country.
