DU introduces Prof Mahmood Gold Medal

A new gold medal titled 'Prof Dr ABM Mahmood Gold Medal' has been introduced at History Department of Dhaka University (DU).

Retired Prof ABM Mahmood handed over a cheque of Tk 11 lakh to DU Treasurer Prof Md Kamal Uddin to introduce the gold medal at the Vice-Chancellor's office on Wednesday.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman, Chairman of the Department of History Prof Ahmed Abdullah Jamal, Acting Registrar Md Enamuzzaman, some other teachers and donor's family members were present, among others, on this occasion.

Out of the income of this donation, every year two meritorious students of DU History Department who will secure the highest CGPA in BA Honors and MA Examinations will be given Prof. Dr. ABM Mahmood Gold Medal.

 Pro-AL panel wins BAUTA election

The pro-Awami League teachers panel ‘Ganatantrik Shikkakh Forum’ won the Bangladesh Agricultural University Teachers’ Association (BAUTA) poll on Wednesday.

Professor of pathology department Dr AS Mahfuzul Bari and professor of agriculture economics Dr Md Amirul Islam were elected as president and general secretary, respectively.

Other elected members of the panel are- vice-president-- Prof Kazi Shahanara Ahmed of entomology department; treasurer—Prof Md Aslam Ali of environmental science department; joint secretary--Dr Md Rayhanul Islam of farm structure and environmental science department;  and Prof Mobarak Akhtar Mhammad Yahia Khandokar, Prof Khan Md Saiful Islam, Prof Md Zahangir Alam, Prof Md Alamgir Hossain, Prof Gopal Das and Prof Md Zakir Hossain were elected members of the committee.  Chief election commissioner Prof Md Mosharraf Hossian announced the result at around 9pm on Wednesday.

JnU Film Society gets new committee

A new executive committee of the Jagannath University (JnU) Film Society has been formed recently for 2018-19.  Israr Ehsan, student of Mass Communication and Journalism Department, Mahmudul Kabir Milton of Management Department, were elected as the president and general secretary respectively of the organisation.

The other office bearers are— vice-presidents--- Tazrian Sultana, Abu Sayed; assistant general secretary-- Imtiaz Rifat; organising secretary-- SM Asif; finance secretary--Abida Chowdhury; secretary and workshop secretary-- Mehedi Hasan Rabbi; office secretary--Shubha Halder; education and research secretary-- Ekram Abdullah; publicity and publication secretary--Ruhul Amin Shuvo; cultural secretary--Aashiq Mohammad; public relations secretary-- Shahnewaz Kabir Arpon; Information Technology Secretary--Abdur Rahman Sifat; and the executive members are-- Sadman Rahman, Enamul Haque, Pallab Biswas and Mushfiqur Rahman Mukit. Jagannath University Film Society’s Mentor and Chairman of the Department of Film and Television Junaid Ahmed Halim and former president Debashish Biswas Pavel and former General Secretary Shariful Islam Shawon were present in the election.
