Foreign pavilions at Dhaka int’l trade fair draw attention

Foreign pavilions are in full swing in the ongoing Dhaka International Trade Fair, drawing attention of the local crowds with exclusive products.   

There are 17 foreign countries participating in the trade show through 44 pavilions and stalls. The participating foreign pavilions are mostly from Turkey, Thailand, India and Nepal. Different types of products including Kashmiri shawls, Turkish melamine, jewellery items, gift sets for kids are gaining attention to the visitors.          

Salesperson Hetizah said her Turkish stall is mostly showcasing products such as—jewellery and melamine items. “Bracelet prices start from Tk 4,000 to Tk 8,500. The dance equipment (Bicha) costs Tk 15,000.”

These two jewellery items have already received a good response from the visitors, she said.       

When asked about the discount, she said, “We are offering 10 per cent discount on particular types of jewellery items”

Explaining about the melamine product, she said, “We are selling melamine products such as—Tray and Cake plates with cover ranging from Tk 800 to Tk 1,300”        

Iranian stalls are mostly selling various types of spices and herbs items. Iranian businessman Emad said, “They are selling per kg of cumin seeds (jeera) at Tk 500 which is lower than that of usual price.”

Nepali pavilions are showcasing products such as—jeans, Nepali shawls, Tupi. A sales representative of a Nepali stall said, Nepali shawl starts from Tk 950 and Tupi starts from Tk 200.

The Indian stalls are selling shawls at its peak. The sales person of that stall said, “Kashmiri shawls are drawing customers’ attention as intense cold is going on in this winter season”

“Shawls at various costs are available in our stall. Most of them are available from Tk 2,800 to Tk 3,200.   

The stalls of Thailand pavilion are mostly selling various kitchen accessories such as—juicer, dry cleaner and frying pan.

A salesperson of one of Thai stalls said, ‘Wonder bullet’ is a handy, compact and versatile kitchen appliance that can accomplish any kitchen job in less than 10 seconds. It is a 17-piece high-speed mixing system that chops, whips, blends, and more.

The price of ‘Wonder bullet’ is Tk 7,000 because it is made up of stainless steel, she said.
