UGC to develop software for distance learning

The University Grants Commission will develop two software packages with a view to checking plagiarism and facilitating research as well as distance learning education for universities, reports BSS.

The software packages will be developed by Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN), a component of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) of UGC, said Chairman of UGC Professor Abdul Mannan while addressing as the chief guest a workshop titled “Awareness on Research Gateway and Distance Learning Education” at UGC auditorium in capital’s Agargaon on Tuesday, said a press release.

He said BdREN will immensely benefit the learners and researchers of the universities in conducting their research activities and it will also help to reach distance learning education to a large community in a cost-effective and efficient way.

With UGC Member Prof Md Akhtar Hossain in the chair, the event was also addressed by UGC Member Prof Dil Afroza Begum and Project Director (Additional Secretary), HEQEP Dr Gauranga Chandra Mohanta, the release.

The UGC chairman also urged students, teachers and researchers to adopt latest technology for enhancement and attaining excellence in higher education and research.

Professor Dil Afroza Begum said such kinds of software will help in expanding connectivity among the researchers in local and international arena. It will also play a role in stopping plagiarism in research activities.
